The menu bar displays the menu heading. The menus that are available depend on what is open in the work space. All commands related to word processing may be found in this menu bar. Therefore it is important to highlight that a command might be disabled if some required conditions are not met. For example you are attempting to change the property of table's cell but the caret is not inside a table. A caret is the name for the cursor that represents the current text insertion point in a window.
